The company started a campaign to raise $1 million of that $7 million through an online fundraising site -- Kickstarter.com -- that will end September 30. As of Friday the online campaign had raised only $202,223 donated from more than a thousand supporters. The organization raised $1.5 million outside of Kickstarter campaign, according to Heller. "The odds have been against us for a long time," George Steel, general manager & artistic director for the company, said in an online video, "but in the face of that difficulty we have made tremendous progress." The company, dubbed "The People's Opera" by former NYC Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, was founded on the principle that every New Yorker should be able to afford to go to the opera, Steel said. Steel explains that in order for the company to break even, it would need to sell every ticket for $600, but instead the starting ticket price is actually $25 to make it more affordable. The New York City Opera received critical praise in the past for its world premieres of work including Robert Ward's "The Crucible" and Anthony Davis' "The Life and Times of Malcolm X." The company opened its current season on September 17 with the opera "Anna Nicole," and should it fail to raise the necessary funds by Monday, that could be the Company's last production.

The newspaper posted the report on its website Saturday. A January 2011 memorandum from the spy agency indicated that the policy shift was intended to help the agency "discover and track" connections between intelligence targets overseas and people in the United States, the Times reported. The documents Snowden provided indicated that the NSA can augment the communications data with material from public, commercial and other sources, including bank codes, insurance information, Facebook profiles, passenger manifests, voter registration rolls and GPS location information, as well as property records and unspecified tax data, the paper reported. NSA officials declined to say how many Americans have been caught up in the effort, including people involved in no wrongdoing, the Times reported. The documents do not describe what http://procoliber.livejournal.com/3972.html has resulted from the scrutiny, which links phone numbers and e-mails in a "contact chain" tied directly or indirectly to a person or organization overseas that is of foreign intelligence interest, the paper reported. The documents provided by tape Snowden don't specify which phone and e-mail databases are used to create the social network diagrams, the Times reported, and NSA officials wouldn't identify them. However, NSA officials said the large database of Americans' domestic phone call records revealed in June was not used, the paper reported.

Obama-Rouhani Chat Covers Nuclear Talks, New York Traffic
Their chat marked an about-face from three days earlier, when the Iranian leader rejected a U.S. invitation to meet with Obama -- http://jaednlg.soup.io/save or just shake hands -- at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Both men have spoken in recent weeks of prospects for reengagement amid international sanctions aimed at keeping Iran from developing nuclear weapons. A path to a meaningful agreement will be difficult, and at this point, both sides have significant concerns that will have to be overcome, Obama said at the White House an hour after the call. But I believe weve got a responsibility to pursue diplomacy, and that we have a unique opportunity to make progress with the new leadership in Tehran. The call, which began at 2:30 p.m. New York time, didnt set the stage for direct U.S.-Iran talks or future conversations between the two men.
